NOVEMBER 6, 2019 - Downeast Transportation now offers midday public bus service between Bar Harbor and Bangor five days a week, Monday through Friday. In the past, this service was limited to just two days a week.

The Bangor bus departs the Bar Harbor Village Green Monday through Friday at 8:00 a.m. and arrives Bangor International Airport at 9:55, Concord Coach at 10:00, and the Bangor Mall at 10:10 a.m. Buses will continue, on request, to Eastern Maine Medical Center and downtown Pickering Square. Return buses depart Pickering Square at 1:30 p.m., EMMC at 1:35, the Bangor Mall at 1:40, Concord Coach at 1:50, and Bangor International Airport at 1:55 p.m. The fare for a same-day round-trip ride between Bar Harbor and Bangor is $9. The one-way fare is $9.

The Hancock County transit system also recently increased the capacity of Monday-through-Friday commuter service from Bangor and Brewer to the Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor. One bus departs Bangor Odlin Road at 5:30 a.m., while a second bus departs the Brewer ice rink at 5:30 a.m.. Downeast offers a Bangor and Brewer to Bar Harbor subsciption commuter fare of $20 per week.

Financial support for expanded bus service between Bar Harbor and Bangor is provided by the Federal Transit Administration, the Maine Department of Transportation, and Jackson Laboratory.

APRIL 21, 2018 - Public bus service between Bar Harbor and Ellsworth will increase to four round trips each weekday beginning April 30. In recent years, Downeast Transportation has offered one trip to Ellsworth in the morning and one return trip in the late afternoon.
     The new schedule offers northbound buses departing Malvern-Belmont Apartments at 7:15 a.m., 9:05 a.m., 11:05 a.m., and 1:05 p.m. Southbound buses will depart Ellsworth City Hall at 8:00 a.m., 9:55 a.m., 11:55 a.m., 1:55 p.m., and 3:15 p.m. Other Ellsworth stops include Walmart, Reny's, and the Maine Coast Mall. The round trip fare is $6.
     "The new schedule offers passengers more choices and improved convenience," said Downeast executive direcgor Paul Murphy.
     The expanded Ellsworth-Bar Harbor service includes stops at Jakson Laboratory in Bar Harbor and at the new Jackson Lab facility in Ellsworth. The service is designed in part to help Lab employees who need to travel during the day between the two facilities.
     Downeast Transportation also offers multiple commuter routes to Bar Harbor, five-day-a-week service between Ellsworth and Blue Hill, Monday and Friday service from Bar Harbor and Ellsworth to Bangor, and one-day-a-week midday shuttles in Bar Harbor, Ellsworth, and Bucksport.
