DOWNEAST ADDS AUDIO WEB FEATURE
October 22, 2013 - Visitors to Downeast Transportation and Island Explorer web sites can now sit back and listen to information about Hancock County transit services. The local bus company has partnered with the international technology firm BrowseAloud to provide improved accessibility for people who have difficulty reading web content, as well as for people who prefer to listen instead of read.
"We have introduced BrowseAloud to make it easier for residents and visitors to obtain information about our services," said Downeast Transportation General Manager Paul Murphy. "Downeast Transportation has operated wheelchair accessible buses for 33 years, and we are now working to ensure that our information systems are fully accessible too," Murphy said.
Visitors to the Downeast Transportation and Island Explorer web sites can activate a BrowseAloud link on either home page. To hear text read aloud from a desktop or laptop computer, simply move your mouse pointer over the text. From a touch screen devise, simply tap on the text to hear it read aloud.
